By default, WordPress comes with 5 post types. (Post, page, attachment, revision and nav menu). Often, themes register extra post types such as Salient’s ‘Portfolio’ post type. To add new custom post types or taxonomies we use the plugin ‘Custom Post Type UI’ (CPTUI). Separating additional content into a new post type creates better overview within the WordPress Admin-area, and allows for precise filtering and searching on the front-end. Do note that not all themes support custom post types for showing content in a looping element.
